Mission — A Sanctuary to Unwind

An Izakaya is more than just a place to eat; it is a space to connect and free your spirit. We bring the warm, vibrant energy of Tokyo's Izakaya culture straight to the heart of London. By providing a "Third Place" away from the hustle and bustle of daily life — complete with delicious sake, soulful small plates, and a welcoming atmosphere — we strive to be a "city sanctuary" where everyone can recharge for tomorrow.

Vision — "Tadaima / I'm Home"

For our Japanese guests, we offer the comfort of home. For our local community, we provide an authentic Izakaya experience that goes beyond formality, focusing on the true joy of the culture. We envision the energy recharged at Tokyo Retro rippling out through the city. Regardless of nationality, we aspire to be a place where everyone can shed their "armor" and share a laugh, feeling truly at home.

From Yurina, Founder — I was born and raised in the west of Tokyo. Growing up in a large, lively family — shrine festivals, grand banquets, adults laughing and bonding — I always wanted to create a place as joyful as that. Years later, working a demanding corporate job in Tokyo, it was the izakaya that saved me. Stopping by on my way home, laughing with strangers over good food and sake: my "Third Place," where I could finally be myself. Every time I stepped back outside, my heavy steps felt lighter. That magic is the very foundation of Tokyo Retro.

Living in a foreign land with a different language and culture is tougher than anyone imagines. I have felt that struggle firsthand. That is why I want Tokyo Retro to be a sanctuary where those fighting their own battles in this city can finally lay down their burdens. Please knock on our door as if you were visiting the home of a close friend.
